Tis The Season To Be Simple

Keep it simple
Keep it simple

At Pearls For Life; Family Yoga, based in Encinitas, Ca, we are about family – in the studio and out. We are about your family, enjoying every opportunity given to you.

This time of year can be exhausting. I have a friend who refused to erect a Christmas tree this year, not because she’s The Grinch, but because it’s so much work and all the traditions that are meant to bring her family together, she’s found, do the opposite; the busy season sends her family in different directions, with separate agendas that tear the family unit at the seams.

Sometimes traditions need a do over.

Take a breath this year and pause…just pause enough to rethink your holiday. What does this season truly mean to you, to your family? Then cut out everything that takes away from that. Make the season simple enough to enjoy it.

A friend of mine started a tradition when her kids were young – and to be honest, I’m kind of jealous I didn’t think of it way back when. Every year, on the night her family puts up the tree, she gives each kid a new ornament – something personal that represents them. Why? So when they move out and start their own family and traditions, they’ll have a head start on ornaments to take with them – their own set. I love it.

Every time I vacuum and step on a Lego, I think I’d rather throw all the toys away that my kids have; the ones they were dying for but played with for maybe a day or two and give them something that really matters: a family trip, amusement park passes, family yoga membership, gym membership (depending on your kids’ ages).

Something that matters.

A friend told me that her father bought her a blog for her birthday. He knew she needed a creative outlet, so he set one up for her and gave her the URL on her birthday. What a beautiful gift – a gift given with the other’s soul in mind.

Do something simple that matters to your family.

Tis the season to be simple.
