3 Ways to Simplify Your Life: Time

Simplify!

Take time this summer to simplify your life.

Unplugging from school often means unplugging from sporting practices, Cub Scout meetings, piano lessons and karate. It frees your life and gives you back something tremendously important: TIME.

Enjoy the summer!

Take the time you’ve been handed, to truly invest in the things that make our lives richer: games with the kids, outdoor activities, day trips, pool days, backyard BBQ’s, hiking, fishing, strolling, picking berries, planting gardens, DIY projects.

Create a board on Pinterest of things to do with the kids, nieces and nephews and grandkids, that will not just keep them busy, but create lasting memories. Make an outdoor Scrabble board or bocce ball run. Find old tiles and have them paint rocks to make their own tic-tact-toe board. They will take such pride in the work of their hands and will remember the time together whenever they enjoy the game.

While I like to stay away from the oven and baking during the summer, take this opportunity to make no-bake meals with the kids. Teach them the importance of eating whole foods by making delicious and healthy kid-friendly meals.

Breath, unwind, say enough. Put your feet up and read a book. Better yet, read one to the kids. Have them pick a book they are all interested in and begin your day laying on the couch or in bed reading aloud.

Turn off the electronics!

Make a house rule that no electronics (TV. iEverythings, Game Boys, etc.) come on until after lunch. Take the mornings, while it’s cool, to get outside and unplug from the external influences and plug into each other.

Teach the kids to find enjoyment in the simple things: puzzles, board games, coloring, reading, big collecting, lizard hunting…YOGA! Find a yoga video or get a book on yoga poses and start your day outside on the grass with your own family yoga session. Start the day united, centered and invigorated.

Before the summer steals away and the kids are back to school, take this time to truly enjoy your greatest gift: TIME.
